It’s going to take a monumental effort to haul the title away from Manchester United after they tightened their grip on the Premier League trophy. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side saw off the challenge of Blackburn on Monday night with two late goals from Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young moving and putting a five-point chasm between themselves and rivals City with six-games remaining. Ferguson’s class of 2012 have certainly initiated their customary gear change at the right time and now have space to breath ahead of City and the impending derby game at the end of April. In fact United could open up an eight-point gap at the top before their neighbours play on Sunday afternoon – a quite remarkable achievement considering the blue half of Manchester were convinced the trophy was sown up just a few short months ago. Fergie hasn’t even had to roll out his best mind games on Roberto Mancini yet!

This week on FFC a young midfielder is warned about leaving Old Trafford, a current player weighs up his future options and the United career of a laid back Bulgarian is scrutinised.

Quote of the Week

“I always believed we would challenge for the title. It doesn’t matter who is out. United never depend on one player. If you look at the past, players have left and fans have said how are we going to cope? But the manager is the best at replacing players and the team still win titles and trophies. That is why Manchester United are so special.

We didn’t expect the young players would play so many games and have such influence on the team. This is a great plus for the club. Obviously we have had some injuries over the past year, which is another difficult thing we have gone through, but we have coped and been very competitive with Manchester City. Now we are at the top of the league and have a big chance to win it.” Nemanja Vidic hails Manchester United’s youth contingent after Monday’s win at Blackburn
